Matt Waters

Lecturer in Paramedic Science

Matt began his career as a research/pharmaceutical chemist where he co-authored over a dozen publications in the area of novel fluorine and phosphorus compounds. In 2004 he joined West Country Ambulance Service (now SWASFT) and progressed to the role of Paramedic where he was involved in the delivery of emergency, unscheduled and pre-hospital care in the Devon area. In 2014 Matt joined the Hazard Area Response Team (HART), before progressing to a HART Team Leader role a year later. While in HART, he was an instructor for Rope Rescue and Swift Water Rescue, and also gained valuable experience during a secondment as a Clinical Supervisor in the SWASFT Clinical Hub. Matt left the ambulance service to undertake Secondary Teacher training in 2019 and was employed as a chemistry and science teacher before joining Swansea University as a Lecturer in early 2023. Matt’s areas of interest are education theory, and pharmacology. In his free time Matt enjoys walking in the Welsh mountains with his dog.
