Jordan Nicholls

Patient Safety Specialist

Jordan has worked in patient safety across a number of sectors, including paediatric care, mental health and the ambulance service. With a degree in Drama, Applied Theatre and Education from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Jordan has focused on how to identify key learning for different healthcare audiences, and aiming to develop new and innovative ways of reducing the systemic risks of incidents reoccurring. Before working in patient safety, Jordan started his career in the busy press offices of both the ambulance and police services. He uses this communications background to help with engaging staff and patients in key safety topics. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Jordan created 'EEAST General Broadcast', a podcast that promoted safety in the prehospital sector by speaking to national and international experts, when engaging with staff face to face was difficult. Jordan is a trained QSIR practitioner and completed a QI coaching course to support teams in embedding safety practices. He is also a mental health first aider, with a focus on reducing the impact on second and third victims of incidents. He has a particular interest in Human Factors and Ergonomics, which helps to steer how best to embed safe practices into patient care. Jordan is an advocate of the Patient Safety Managers Network, noting that it is a key part of his work routine to engage with other safety professionals to work together.
