Advanced Paramedic Practitioner (Urgent Care)

Esme is an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner (APP) in Urgent Care working for the London Ambulance Service. As a paramedic she has experience working on ambulances, fast response cars (FRU), and as a clinical advisor in the emergency operations centre. She was awarded an MSc in Paramedic Science with distinction at the University of Hertfordshire in 2020. Her masters included primary qualitative research into paramedics’ decision making when attending people living with dementia. She started her current role as an advanced paramedic practitioner in 2021. She works solo on an FRU within the ambulance service as well us undertaking rotational work in other healthcare settings including a minor injuries unit and in general practice. The role has an extended scope of practice including wound closure, point of care bloods, additional medications and advanced clinical assessment skills, with the aim of managing patients safely in the community where possible. Esme qualified as an Independent Prescriber in 2023. She also passed the College of Paramedic’s Diploma in Primary and Urgent Care the same year. Her professional interests include dementia, palliative care and tackling health inequalities.
